By DADA  AYOKHAI  The President of Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, (NULGE), Comrade Lazarus Adorolor, has indicated interest of contesting for the top position of the Union.     The election of a new national president of the Union is a major activity to be conducted during the NULGE National Delegates Conference, tentatively fixed for January 5 - 6, 2021, in Lagos.      Adorolor, of Edo North extraction, is expected to fly the Edo State flag at the election.     Other contestants in the race for the NULGE top position and who are expected to slug it out with Adorolor are from    NULGE chapters  in Imo, Cross River, Ogun and Delta state respectively.   Adorolor, a former two term chairman of the NULGE branch of Etsako West local government, is highly tipped for the coveted position based on his reach, tract record and  achievements while in office.  In a...

By DADA AYOKHAI  An Abuja High  court precided over by  Justice Ahmed Mohammed  will on  Tuesday,29 December  delivers  judgment in the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking the disqualification of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu from the September 19 governorship election in Edo State. Justice Mohammed fixed the date after counsel representing parties adopted and argued their respective written addresses for and against the suit. PDP in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/ CS/69/20, is praying the court for an order disqualifying Ize-iyamu from contesting in the September 19 governorship poll on account of not being validly nominated by his party, the APC. In the suit filed on July 3, 2020, the plaintiff is claiming that Ize-iyamu was not a product of a valid primary election hence, should not be allowed to participate in the forthcoming election. By Dada Ayokhai Finally, Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has been exonerated of any complicity in the rumoured plot to dissolve the elected PDP Exco in the state. Edo State Chairman of the party, DR Tony Aziegbemi, who described the so-called rumour as the figment of the imagination of a few some people   saying it came as a rumour and still remains a rumour without an iota of truth whatsoever.  Penultimate week, a widely circulated rumour, with Governor Obaseki at the centre of it, had sprouted on the social media and some national dailies, alleging the governor had approached the PDP national body to seek for the dissolution of the party organs in the state to pave way for his loyalists from the APC.  Dr  Aziegbemi was officially reacting to the rumour, for the first time, since it broke out during a press briefing at the party's secretariat in Benin. By DADA AYOKHAI A  Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will on Thursday,24 December commese proceedings  on   the alleged certificate forgery suit preferred against the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki by the APC. This  development became necessary after the court refused to stay proceedings in the suit as requested by the Governor and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) . Accordingly, the court directed the plaintiff to open and close his case within two days beginning from Thursday, December 24 to Tuesday, December 29. It equally gave the defendants two days to open and conclude their defence effective from Wednesday 30 to Thursday 31 of December 2020. The judge observed that his court will continue with the trial as directed by the Court of Appeal until the order is set aside by any other court of competent jurisdiction. By DADA AYOKHAI The National Judicial Council, at its 93rd Meeting of 16th December, 2020 virtually held, considered the list of candidates interviewed and presented by its Interview Committee.  At the end of deliberation, Council recommended  names of Sixty-nine (69) successful candidates to Mr. President (in the case of Kadis of the FCT Sharia Court of Appeal) and the various State Governors (in the case of other State Judicial Officers and Heads of Court) for appointment. In Edo state, eight  judicial officers  were amongst the successful candidates recommended as Judges . Among the eight  from Edo state is Mrs Hassana Garuba, the wife of the former speaker, Edo state House of Assembly, Rt hon Zakawanu Garuba who died few months ago.
