APC faces political liquidation in Edo north
The All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Edo North district of Edo State may go into political liquidation following the decision and the commitment of the APC local government chairmen to continue their loyalty and allegiance to the Edo deputy governor, comrade Philip Shaibu who has jettisoned the party before the election for PDP.
An ominous indication of this came to the fore with the recent visit by some APC executives to the deputy governor of Edo State, Hon Philip Shaibu
Pastor Kenneth Asekhome, who was the Edo state vice chairman of the party before the crisis, Edo State vice chairman of the party, led a delegation made up of the district's six local government chapter chairmen of the party to pay a thank you visit to the deputy governor.
The 6 APC LGA chairmen are
. Sir Sunday Adogah, Etsako East, Hon. Ashefor Henry, Akoko-Edo, Hon. Zakeri Ozizi, Etsako Central,
Hajia Rabi Ezolome, Etsako West
Mr John Ojeikhoa, Owan West and
Barr.Theophilus Aigboje, Owan East.
Though they tagged the visit to be congratulatory, political watchers in the district, however, believed it was a camouflage to conceal their real intentions, which is to collapse the party in the district.
According to them, an oppositon party cannot pay a thank you visit to its opponent in an election stressing that they were actually motivated by some other ulterior political motives.
in his report on the social media about the visit, the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Musa Ebomiana said
"APC chairmen from the six LG areas of Edo North Senatorial zone and the party state executive from the zone led by Pastor Kenneth Asekomhe went on a thank you visit to the state Deputy Governor, Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu for making them proud in the just concluded governorship election in the State. They all pledged to swim and sink with him in the politics of Edo State."
Incidentally, Edo North was the only zone where the APC won in the last governorship election which resulted in the re-election of Governor Obaseki and his deputy.
Out of the six local government areas in the district, the APC won in five, an indication of the amount of influence it commands in the district.
Pastor Kenneth Asekhome who led the delegation was a party to the suit which culminated in the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomole as APC national chairman.
Some Edo North APC members, however said that those behind the nocturnal visit were a minority faction, adding they don't in any way represent the plans and aspirations of the APC in Edo North .
