Anwain community ; Obaseki is God sent to us.
By DADA AYOKHAI
The relationship between Governor Godwin Obaseki and the good people of Anwain with headquarter in Idegun, Etsako West local government area, is one of mutual respect and cordiality.
What may have sparked the special bond between Governor Obaseki and Anwain clan was the decision by the former to flag off the construction of the only road that leads directly into the clan, almost at 70 per cent completion stage.
Anwain clan had progressively become the symbol of smiling in the midst of suffering and neglect. For several years, total abandonment, accentuated by bad and inaccessible roads, became the measuring rod of the feelings of Anwain people towards governance. Successive administrations paid lip service to the situation.
Anwain clan can be accessed either through Agbede along the Abuja - Auchi highway or going through Esanland, notably via Irrua and Uromi. Sadly, the Auchi route is closer and shorter but also a nightmarish experience as a result of the terrible state of the road. However, the Esan route, which is a longer route, and more of a detour, winds through several other communities.
From all indications, the Anwain's have resigned themselves to fate, hoping that one day a God sent governor who feels the pangs of the people's long suffering would arise to deliver them from servititude.
Gov Obaseki, during his first tenure in office, made the construction of rural roads of the cardinal policy of his administration, out of which the construction of Anwain road was top on the list. This bold initiative, as it were, helped to seal and redefine the bond and affinity between the amiable governor and Anwain's such that Anwain is one of the communities in Etsako where the governor is adored and worshiped in the state
As a further demonstration of their love and support for the Obaseki/Shaibu administration, the Anwain's gave total and unflinching support to the PDP during the last Edo governorship election
In terms of the total number of votes cast for the PDP in Etsako West during the election, Anwain gave the party the highest recorded votes, surpassing even what its neighbouring clan, Agbede, could muster for their son who was on the ballot as the deputy governorship candidate of the rival APC.
Anwain suffered a lot in terms of the bad network of roads and abandonment under past administrations in the state, stretching way back to the old Bendel State. Thus, many wealthy Anwain's were forced to build their personal homes in nearby Aviele village and use motor bikes to visit their ancestral homes whenever the need arises. With the intervention of Gov Obaseki, this ugly trend was reversed and the prayers on the lip of an average Anwain is for the second coming of the governor to lead to the completion of the remaining portions of the road
According to the President General of Anwain Progressive Union, Barrister Rasak isenalumhe the first coming of Gov Obaseki was like God sent and we earnestly look forward to a more impactful second term especially as it concerns the completion of the ongoing work on Anwain road.
This is laudable.
