The former chairman of the Auchi chapter of The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, Engr (Mrs) Mariam Abdulwajid Obomeghie, is among the elites group of engineering professionals selected by the Edo state government to oversee the regulation of engineering practice in Edo state.
Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, had recently, at a special event held inside the Executive Chambers in the Government House, Benin, inaugurated two separate but related committees on engineering regulation in the state.
One of the two committees is the Edo State Technical Committee, ESTC, while the other is the Edo State Expatriate Monitoring Committee, ESEMC
.
Given her invaluable and vast experience in the complex field of engineering practice in Nigeria, Engr Obomeghie's membership of the state's Technical Committee on Projects Monitoring, is a well deserved recognition of her expertise.
A member of the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, COREN, Engr Obomeghie's membership of the committee makes her the first female member of COREN to serve on the state's monitoring committee.
In his address while inagurating the committees, the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin obaseki said
"The inauguration of Edo State Technical Committee for the engineering regulation monitoring of COREN is the birth of a new dawn in what we consider current effort to revolutionalize the practice of engineering in Nigeria in general and Edo in particular.
According to the governor
"With this inauguration, the era of mediocrity should be gone. I am tired of people who don't have the relevant training calling themselves engineers; engineering is a serious subject and it's like the practice of medicine.
“I think members of COREN should look at the issue of quackery. We took extreme care and diligence in selecting members of Edo State Technical Committee and Edo State Expatriate Monitoring Committee."
