Edo former speaker's wife, 7 others sworn in as judges in Edo

Wife of the former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mrs Hassana Garuba, was among the seven others from Edo state secured the recommendation of the national judicial council to be appointed as judges by the Edo state government after a successful interview process have been sworn in.
The new judges were sworn in on Monday by the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin obaseki at a ceremony held inside the new Festival Hall of the Government House, Benin, with strict observance of the COVID- 19 protocols.
Mrs Garuba who was accompanied to the ceremony by her eldest son,Haliru, who is also a lawyer, has held several magisterial positions in the state, including Magistrate and Chief Magistrate respectively, before her new appointment as a judge.
An indigene of Auchi, Etsako West council area, Mrs Hassana Garuba is greatly admired for her magisterial disposition. Her late husband, Rt Hon Zakawanu Garuba, also a lawyer, was a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Hajia Garuba read law at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, before joining the public service and gradually rose in ranks by sheer diligence.
Some of her late husband political associates and professional colleagues thronged the venue of the swearing in ceremony to felicitate with one of their own on her new status.
The kinsmen of the late Speaker from the ancient town of Auchi and other well wishers dotted the entire place of the venue, trying to add spice to the event, decked in their colourful garbs.
Others who were sworn in alongside Hajia Garuba includes Aziegbemin Williams Idemudia, Igho Patricia Braimoh, Esoho Irene Bazuaye, Etinosa Gloria Adekanbi, Theresa Irenonsen Eghe-Abe, Ogbevoen Rachel Aiteseme and Itsueli Mary Enoredia.
A reception, in strict compliance with COVID- 19 guidelines, was later held in her honour at her residence.
