Edo PDP rejects Oghiadomhe's led Elders Council
By DADA AYOKHAI
More trouble appears to be brewing in the Edo State camp of the PDP, following the inauguration of an Edo North Elders Council, led by Chief Mike Oghiadomhe.
Edo State PDP chairman, Chief Tony Aziegbemin, faulted the creation of the body, describing it as strange and unknown to the party constitution.
The press statement is widely regarded as the official position of Edo State PDP on the Council headed by former two term deputy governor of the state, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe.
Some prominent PDP members in the state have kicked against the Council, saying it is meant to undermine the other organs of the party.
Chief Aziegbemin, in the statement, said the formation of the body contravenes the constitution of the party.
He said, " It has become imperative to state that the PDP constitution is the supreme document which stipulates the various organs of the party, its workings, functions and composition.
The party constitution is very clear on the administrative and decision making organs of the party, as spelt out in chapters 4 and 5 of the 2017 constitution of the party, as amended. Any other body outside of these is illegal ".
In particular, he said the party constitution recognises two organs namely: the Senatorial Executive Committee, which is an elected body and the Senatorial District Caucus, which is largely an advisory body.
While he specifically urged all party leaders to put the best interest of the party before any other primordial consideration, he assured members of the readiness of the state working committee to engender a conducive atmosphere devoid of conflicts and acrimony.
He stated there are enough organs in the party to address all concerns and urged stakeholders and leaders of the party to extend a strong hand of support to the party executives at every level
