Obaseki queries Agba's Competence as minister

The cold war which exists between Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, reared its ugly head once again as the former hit so hard on the poor quality of work done on the Benin water storm project. 

A visibly angry Gov Obaseki queried the competence of the current Minister of State on Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, insisting the minister lacks the supervisory skills required to handle  turn key projects,  having failed in similar assignments at the state level. 

Prince Agba, now a minister of state, was the Edo State Commissioner of Environment during the administration of Comrade Oshiomole supervised the  Benin city water storm project.  

Governor Obaseki did not spare the former commissioner for his poor supervisory role, stating the project execution was desinged to fail  from onset  adding that the additional problems created is what his administration is now trying to correct in order to bring succour to the people.  

The governor made this submission while inspecting the Textile Mill Road catchment of the project in Benin. 

Using a heavy dose of innuendoes, Gov Obaseki threw darts at the minister, maintaining the quality of work he saw during his inspection cannot solve the perennial flooding problem in Benin. 

He said, "There's almost a two - metre difference, there's no way you can drain water from a low land to a higher ground. We say we have experts and paid over N30bn for this project. The person who supervised this project calls himself a minister and is busy supervising bigger projects for the federal government. This is unacceptable". 

He also accused his predecessor, Comrade Oshiomhole of awarding the contract to defraud Edo people and promised to probe the Benin storm water project.  

" You can see the so - called storm water project is a fraud. It's a contract to defraud Edo people. From what l can see, the storm water project in this catchment area was not designed to take water away from this area. This area is not drained. You can see the level of what we are doing compared to that of the previous administration", he noted. 

Gov Obaseki served as chairman of the Edo State Economic Team during the administration of Comrade Oshiomole. 

He was credited for being the major brain behind Edo State's economic blueprint. 

Even Comrade Oshiomole during the gubernatorial campaign for Obaseki's first term, alluded to this fact and described Obaseki as the "cornerstone" of his administration's solid economic foundation for the state.

Auchi Microfinance Bank groans under high customers debt profiles

By DADA AYOKHAI  The management of Auchi Microfinance Bank (AMFB), yesterday, decried the high indebtedness of customers to the bank just as it urges customers to pay up in order to remain in business. Chairman of the financial institution, Hassan Momodu, expressed his resentment at its 22nd and 23rd joint annual general meetings of the bank in Auchi, Edo  According to him "We are using this medium to appeal passionately to our shareholders and the general public that are indebted to us to pay up to reduce our yearly provisioning and improve our profitability”,  Momodu also said that the increase in the fund in the period under review represented a 29 percent improvement on the fund.
