Obende floors Edo APC over Supremacy battle
By DADA AYOKHAI
The battle of supremacy between Senator Domingo Obende, on one hand and the state chapter of the APC, on the other hand, has taken a new dimension, as the National Caretaker Committee of the party seems to have pitched tent with the senator.
In a move considered to be a tacit support for the Akoko_ Edo former Edo north senator, the National Caretaker Committee of the party ignored all the petitions filed against the embattled senator.
Trouble started when the state chapter of the APC led by Dr David Imuse petitioned the APC National Caretaker Committee, led by Mallam Mala Bunu, claiming Sen Obende's nomination as chairman of the party's registration and revalidation committee in Niger State was illegal, stressing the embattled senator was already serving a suspension as a result of anti party activities.
Whilst the heat of this petition was generating controversy, a similar petition was fired by the Edo North APC national assembly caucus, comprising Sen Francis Alimikhena and three House of Representatives members namely, Hon Johnson Oghuma, Prof Julius Ihonvbere and Peter Akpatason, in which they called for Obende's removal from chairmanship of the committee.
According to his traducers, Sen Obende's nomination is tantamount to rewarding disloyalty and wondered why the national secretariat of the party would take such far reaching decisions without consulting the local and state chapters of the party.
Sen Obende, however, remained unfazed by these antics, telling whoever cared to listen that he was still a loyal and bona fide member of the APC.
He described the attempt to get him suspended as a largely misdirected effort, adding it was part of the scheming for who represents Edo North in 2023.
With the nail hit harder on the coffin, accusers of Sen Obende have once again met their Waterloo.
The embattled senator is now free to concentrate on his job as chairman of the party's registration and revalidation committee in Niger State.
The exercise, already in its closing stage, has been dogged by accusations and counter accusations bordering on marginalisation, outright hijack of registration materials and other sundry complaints across the country
