Your choice of words on me is uncharitable, uncalled for, Agba replies Obaseki

By DADA AYOKHAI
The war of words which erupted between Edo State Gov. Mr Godwin Obaseki and the Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, over the poor handling of the Benin storm water project,  has refused to abate.

Prince Agba, who was  Edo State Commissioner of Environment at the time of the project's execution, came under serious attack from the state governor over his poor handling of the project.

Gov Obaseki had described the minister in a most uncharitable manner  and went on to blame the minister for the "stall" the project has witnessed in recent times as a result of design defects.

Prince Agba  in his  reply to the governor Obaseki over his untrances during an assessment tour of the water storm in Benin said  the governor choice of words against him were uncalled and diminishes the  office of a governor which Obaseki presently occupies.

The  minister further reminder the governor that his manner of addressing him  is derogatory in nature  as the husband to his junior sister, president Muhammadu Buhari who appointed him and the National Assembly that screened  him and approved his nomination.

He said, "You made a veiled reference to my person as: " that one Oga calls himself a minister" and, even goes on to identify me as the said minister by stating "this was a project supervised by Clem Agba". This is unnecessary, uncalled for and diminishes the exalted office you hold. Your Excellency should not be associated with such a statement, which is not only disparaging of my person, the husband of your younger sister, but also derogatory to the President who appointed me and the National Assembly which screened and approved my appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic.

Prince Agba however  reminded the governor of the consequences of abandoning the project and others especially now that the rains is fast approaching.

Insisting the governor is, however, entitled to institute a probe into the handling of the project if he so chooses, maintaining  the governor had allowed prejudice to becloud his reasoning.

" Let us, therefore, eschew prejudices, strife and bitterness and get down to work. While it remains within the purview of your executive and discretionary powers to make enquiries, let it not be a decoy to distract attention of the people when the consequences of the abandoned storm water project and other programmes begin to show as the rains begin to pour".

Prince Agba also reminded the governor of the continuity in government and urged him to inject the same vigour in completing the projects he inherited from his predecessor rather than playing to the gallery.
