By Dada Ayokhai
Agbede, an agrarian community in Etsako West council area in Edo North senatorial district, shot to national limelight following the appointment of one of her illustrious daughter's, Mrs Elohor Aiboni, as the first female managing director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCO.
By her appointment, Mrs Aiboni becomes the first Nigerian woman to attain such a lofty height in the employ of the oil giant.
Her appointment was, however, made public in an unconventional way via the Facebook page of her proud father, Alhaji Nimetu, himself a Prince of the Agbede royal family.
Alhaji Nimetu, a trained pharmacist and a Prince from Agbede royal family broke the cheery news of his daughter's appointment when he wrote on his wall thus: "With gratitude to God, l have the pleasure to inform family and friends of the appointment of my daughter as the first female Managing Director and CEO of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company. Please, remember her in your prayers. Alhamdulilahi".
Mrs Aiboni has paid her dues in a male dominated industry. She was the company's first Operations Manager of Bonga Asset.
With her vast cognate experience of over a decade in the oil and gas sector, spanning diverse areas as projects, assets handling, operations and HSE, during which she garnered requisite skills in interpersonal relations as well as the management of cross - functional and multi - operating units.
Goodwill messages from the deputy Senate President, Sen Ovie Omo - Agege and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on social media, Mrs Lauretta Onochie, as well as other prominent citizens have been streaming in since her appointment.
Fantastic! Good news indeed. I pray it translate to employment opportunity for qualified Edo State citizens. Kudos!
