Undeterred in its resolve to make life more comfortable for those residing in its catchment area, the management of Benin - Owena River Basin Authority has finalised plans to construct a dam in Uzairue kingdom as a way of providing portable water for the inhabitants.
Most inhabitants of Uzairue, including its environs, rely on water drawn from the stream while the few lucky ones have accesse to boreholes provided by distinguished sons or communal effort.
It is expected that the rivers in Iyora and Ayaoghena axis will be dammed to provide water for the reservoir.
Work on the dam, known as Jattu dam, has commenced in earnest, with the Authority having acquired a vast portion of land in Iyora village for that purpose.
Many of those whose land was acquired for the construction of the dam have already been compensated thereby removing any encumbrance that may delay the project execution.
It is envisaged that when completed, the dam will provide clean and drinkable water to most of the villages in Uzairue as well as the water needed for irrigation and other purposes.
Engr Saliu Ahmed had earlier embarked on a duty tour of the dam location for on the spot assessment of the scope of work executed by the contractor handling the project.
During the tour, he had expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the project and restated the Authority's readiness to make life more comfortable and simple for those living around the trajectory of the river.
