Benin owena sets to complete Otuo Earth dam

By DADA AYOKHAI

Barring any constraints which may stand in the way of an early delivery of the Otuo earth dam, the management of Benin Owena River Basin Development Authority, BORDA, is poised to ensure that all bottlenecks are removed and the dam   delivered on schedule.

In that regard, the BORDA management recently awarded contracts for the completion of the last phase of the project, preparatory to its commissioning.

The Otuo earth dam was conceived primarily to bring succour to the inhabitants of Otuo and her neighbours in Owan East who have long suffered acute water scarcity over the years due mainly to the absence of a functional public water supply scheme.

According to sources, the Otuo dam project is capable of servicing the entire Owan axis if put to full capacity.

In addition, the dam is also expected to serve  the dual purpose of providing water for both domestic and irrigation purposes and thereby boost food production via mechanised farming.

Hon Pally Iriase, a former member of House of Representatives, is reported to have  facilitated the project.

Engr Saliu Ahmed, the managing director of BORDA, has repeatedly said at different fora   that BORDA under his control would spare nothing to ensure the project is completed and delivered on schedule in order to break the jinx of acute water shortage once and for all.
