By DADA AYOKHAI
Opinion leaders of Ekperi community in Etsako Central local government under the auspices of Ekperi Leadership Forum were recently in Abuja on a scheduled thank - you visit to the honourable minister of national planning and budget, Prince Clem Agba.
The Ekperi Leadership Forum is a non partisan body formed essentially to promote the development of the clan.
Prof Ben Ugheoke, the president of the forum, led the delegation which visited the minister in Abuja to congratulate him on his well deserved appointment and to express how proud they are with some of the giant strides recorded by his ministry within his short spell in office.
The Forum equally thanked the minister on his decision to appoint one of their kinsman, Mr Athanasius Ugbome as a Special Assistant, SA.
Prof Ugheoke, in his address expressed gratitude to the minister on his bold and constructive steps towards the development of riverine areas in Etsako East and Etsako Central respectively, saying the landmark projects which bore his imprints such as link roads to connect the various Etsako communities, is a testimony of his deep affections for the people.
Specifically, he listed the _Osomhegbe-Ekperi which cut through Udochi in (South-Uneme) to Agenebode as a major link road which can greatly improve the quality of the life of the rural dwellers in those communities when completed.
They equally drew the minister's attention to the stalled rural electrification project, awarded by the federal government to provide solar energy to Agbabu and Ofukpo, both riverine communities in Ekperi, noting the contractor handling the project has since vacated the site.
They, therefore, urged the minister to use his good office to recall the contractor back to site and to also persuade the federal government to award, mobilise and monitor the contractor handling the Osomhegbe Ekperi - Udochi - Agenebode link road to ensure it is completed within this fiscal year.
The Forum assured the minister of their support and cooperation in the task of uplifting the welfare and wellbeing of Ekperi people.
In his response, Prince Agba restated the resolve of the federal government to pursue an aggressive rural transformation agenda which would not only create an all inclusive growth but also improve the quality of life of the average Nigerian citizen irrespective of socio- economic status.
A highpoint of the visit was the presentation of an award on inclusive leadership by the Forum on the honourable minister.
