Rift in our party, unfortunate, regrettable says Edo PDP

By DADA AYOKHAI

The leadership of the Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)  has described the recent rift in the party which pitched the state working committee against the governor as unfortunate and regrettable.

This was contained in press statement issued and signed by the party publicity secretary, Chris Nosakhare titled "a storm in the tea cup".

Recall that the state leadership of the party had in a letter dated May 10th, 2021 addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus after an enlarged State Working Committee and Local Government Area Chairmen, accused the state governor of allegedly proposing a dissolution of the state elected executive committees at all levels of the party.

The PDP's letter to the national leadership of the party has elicited several reactions and  counter reactions by some party's chieftains alleged of working in collaboration with the governor in the agenda of dissolution of the
elected executive committees at all levels of the party.

However, in its reactions titled, "it’s a storm in a tea cup", by the state leadership of the party, blamed the crisis on merchants of falsehood and propaganda whose only agenda was to destabilize Edo State.

While noting that the state leadership of the party, was not oblivious of the uneasy calm that had enveloped the party and by extension the state in the last few days, however, described it as "a storm in a tea cup.

Nehikhare, however, explained that as part of efforts to resolve the rift,
the State Working Committee has  been consulting with various cadres of leadership including His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, the leader of the party in the state, the National Vice Chairman South-South of the People’s Democratic Party, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, members of the National Assembly elected from the state as well as leaders and stakeholders of the party from across the eighteen local government areas.

According to him, we wish to inform our teeming supporters and good people of Edo State that the events that led to this unfortunate and regrettable situation are being addressed and in the true PDP spirit of Edo First, a lot of progress has been made.

"Edo PDP calls on all its members and especially the general public to continue to resist merchants of falsehood and propaganda whose only agenda is to destabilize Edo state.

"We must restate that His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki and PDP are desirous of a state that is prosperous, peaceful, united, secure and healthy. A partnership built on cooperation and collaboration.

"Governor Godwin Obaseki and PDP will continue to deliver on good governance", he added.
