Saliu Ahmed, facilitating the benefits of River Basin to Edo north
By DADA AYOKHAI
Prior to his coming as the substantive managing director ofthe Benin - Owena River Basin Authority Not much was known about the agency in Edo state especially in Edo north district.
Edo State can be said to have been marginalised in the scheme of things, making people to believe the situation was caused by its non representation in the top management board of the authority.
All these, however, changed with the coming of Engr Saliu Ahmed.
Today, the story is different, apart from having repositioned the Authority for greater delivery of services, Engr Ahmed is also sticking to the old cliché that charity begins from home.
Engr Saliu Ahmed is a rare gem and the Auchi born engineering graduate of the University of Benin has chosen not to be a hostage of the coveted office he occupies as the Managing Director of Benin - Owena River Basin Authority.
The lofty idea behind the establishment of these river basin authorities in the late 70s and early 80s, which was to boost food production and guarantee food security in the country, suffered temporary set back, especially as the country came to depend heavily on oil exports for its foreign exchange earnings.
It was, indeed, a herculean task on the shoulders of Engr Ahmed when the President appointed him to steer the ship of Benin - Owena River Basin Authority back on course.
From Etsako to Akoko Edo to Owan, all of which constitute the three major clans in the district and are collectively known in local parlance as Afenmai, there are visible projects bearing the imprints of Engr Ahmed.
In Etsako, for example, there is a perimeter fencing of an integrated farm, the rehabilitation of a water scheme, the provision of solar powered boreholes as well as the donation of a 15 kva generator in Auchi, Afashio and other environs.
Similarly, Owan is basking in the euphoria of hosting various entrepreneurial related projects at Otuo and Ihievbe, all courtesy of Engr Ahmed.
The same goes for Akoko Edo, where Engr Ahmed facilitated the rehabilitation of several primary and secondary schools, the construction of Atte/Egbigere bridge as well as organising trainings for rural farmers in Okpe and Ohurugo to boost their capacity.
Frankly speaking, Engr Ahmed looks like a man who's adrenaline for service delivery is unparalleled. How else can one demonstrate his love for the wellbeing of his people than the way Engr Ahmed has gone about it?
Without mincing words, Engr Ahmed has proven that charity indeed begins from home.
, The Edo North people are quite pleased with the manner he has been able to evenly spread projects across the senatorial district.
