Benin _Owena to build water packaging factory in Auchi

The management of the Benin - Owena River Basin Development Authority, BORDA, has concluded plans to establish a water packaging factory in Auchi, Etsako West local government.
Residents of the ancient town of Auchi, the administrative and economic hub of Etsako West local government and Edo North have for years relied mostly on itinerant water hawkers and commercial tankers to source water for both domestic and other uses.
The situation is even worsened by the total collapse of the public water scheme in the city.
The intervention agency Under the leadership of Engr Saliu Ahmed, himself an illustrious son of Auchi community, BORDA has taken some proactive interventionist steps to tackle the protracted acute water shortage problem in the ancient town.
The project is already on the verge of taken off with the award of the contract.
On complete, the project is expected to generate employment both indirectly and directly as well as provide distilled water to the inhabitants.
BORDA has recently embarked on a rash of water projects in Edo North.
The Authority is presently rehabilitating an earth dam in Auchi coupled with similar projects in other communities as part of a well laid out scheme to provide a permanent solution to the acute water shortage for both domestic and irrigation uses.
As the Authority strives to bring succour to those in its catchment area, some of which are situated in the remotest parts of the district, it is also helping to bridge the gap between the rural and urban areas.
Observers have hailed the idea, stating it would further cement the bond between the Authority and the people in its catchment area.
In addition, the project will help to diversify the revenue sources of the Authority as well as enable it meet her increasing obligations in the face of the dwindling oil revenue.
