Ize Iyamu lacks moral justification to speak for 14 Lawmakers _ Edo PDP

By DADA AYOKHAI

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected an appeal by the defeated APC guber candidate in the Edo 2020 election, Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu, in which he urged the state governor to take political solution to ensure the inaguration of 14 Lawmakers
who are yet to take their seats at the Edo Assembly

The party, in a statement issued by its state Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nosakhare, opined that Pastor Ize Iyamu lacked the moral justification to make such a request, adding that having suddenly realised the futility of his judicial junketing all the while he was busy pursuing a sadistic legal action to torpedo the wishes of Edo people, he now wants to appear as a statesman.

In the wake of the recent Supreme Court  ruling which reaffirmed the qualification of Gov Obaseki to contest the September 19, 2020 Edo governorship election, Pastor Ize Iyamu finally conceded defeat and congratulated the governor on the court verdict.

He also advocated a "political solution" to the pending case of the 14 lawmakers who were yet to be formally inaugurated to serve their respective constituencies, urging the governor to revisit the case as well as grant pardon to the council chairmen and councillors suspended in the wake of the crisis.

He said, "I appeal to the governor to kindly consider the pertinent issue of the 14 constituencies, including the two in the governor's local government, Oredo, and the two in the deputy governor's local government, Etsako West, as they are without representation at the state assembly.

" Though the matter is in court, you, as the governor, is in a vintage position to consider an out of court settlement in the overall interest of our state ".

The state chapter of the PDP, however, berated Pastor Ize Iyamu for his ignoble role in the entire crisis that engulfed the state prelude to the guber election, describing him as an "interloper", who stoked the endless litigations around the case of the 14 lawmakers whose seats was later declared vacant by a competent court.

According to the PDP, any out - of- court settlement, as is being pontificated by Pastor Ize Iyamu, is like  second guessing the outcome of the court case instituted by the affected lawmakers.

It also noted that the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt had, in a well considered judgment, declared all  actions taken against the recalcitrant 14 lawmakers by the Assembly as "proper and legal" and, then,  wondered where the defeated APC flag bearer derived the locus to make such a request, including the recall of the suspended council chairmen and councillors.

Coming short of saying he is crying more than the bereaved, the PDP enjoined the Gov Obaseki not to dignify Pastor Ize Iyamu's letter with a reply, insisting it would have been better if he had remained silent rather than comment on a matter that is still under adjudication.

The party said, "It is our considered opinion that His Excellency, Gov Obaseki, should not dignify Pastor Ize Iyamu's letter with a response or reply. We think it would have been better and more honourable if he had remained silent".
