Obaseki disappoints Old PDP, appoint New PDP man CoS
By DADA AYOKHAI
Seven months and some days after his formal inauguration and the Supreme Court ruling which reaffirmed his qualification, Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has finally provided an insight into what his cabinet would look like when constituted
The clan of the old PDP members are presently reeling in anger and disgust with the decision of Gov Obaseki to openly show his bias for those of the new PDP flock at the detriment of others of the old PDP flock.
The recent appointment of Hon Osaigbovo Iyoha from the clan of the new PDP members as the chief of staff is a fatal blow to the old PDP members who were expecting to be rewarded with some slots in the governor's kitchen cabinet.
The appointment of Hon Iyoha Osaigbovo Toni as the governor's chief of staff caught onlookers by surprise at a time many expected the governor to rise above narrow interests and take those steps that would accelerate the healing process in the party.
Certainly, this open display of affection by the governor will not only disappoint PDP leaders and elders in the state who have tried to bring the various tendencies in the party together, but also deepen the rift between the old and the new PDP members.
The first shocker the governor meted out to the old PDP members in the state was after the election when he chose Mr Osarodion Ogie, one of those who defected with him from the APC, as SSG and, thereby shut the door firmly against members of the old PDP family.
Members of the old PDP were those who offered the party's platform to the governor to vie for re- election after his scandalous disqualification by his former party, the APC.
On the other hand, the new PDP members constitute of loyalists of the governor who followed him to defect enmasse into the PDP.
According to pundits, the old PDP members went too far in their show of magnanimity by accommodating Obaseki and his deputy, Hon Philip Shaibu, and stretched their generosity by allowing both men to run on the party's platform as flag bearer and running mate.
In a statement released today in Benin by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr Osarodion Ogie Esq, the appointment of Hon Osaigbovo takes immediate effect.
Hon Osaigbovo was a former state assembly lawmaker who represented Oredo East constituency between 2015 and 2019. He rose to attain the position of Chief Whip.
Ironically, Hon Osaigbovo was the immediate Special Adviser to the governor on Political Matters (Edo South). in the state. This, in the eyes of keen watchers of Edo politics smacks more of a reappointment than a fresh appointment.
Hon Osaigbovo was born on May 6, 1973. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and a Master's in Industrial Engineering from the University of Benin, Uniben.
Presently, he is on the verge of concluding his doctorate thesis in Industrial Engineering at Uniben. He is also a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE.
