Momoh, Akpatason, take over APC structures at Congress
By DADA AYOKHAI
On the surface, the just
concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) nationwide ward Congresses appeared like an academic exercise but in actual political terms, it was a warfare without an exchange of gunshots.
The ward Congresses was meant to elect those who will run the affairs of the party at the various ward levels.
Beneath the facade, however, the Congress provided ample opportunity for the politicians to test their grassroot appeal, popularity and influence.
In Edo North, it was, indeed, a straight fight among the political gladiators to determine who controls the party structure in the senatorial district.
At the end of the exercise, two top notch APC leaders in the district, Hon Momoh Abubakar and Peter Akpatason were able to have relied heavily on their political clout and reach to overwhelm their opponents and plant their loyalists in vantage positions in those wards where they expect to reap bountiful political gains in the nearest future.
A sources privy to how the political undercurrents played out during the Edo North Congress said Hon Momoh Abubakar and Peter Akpatason were able to swing the process in their favour, utilising the consensus arrangement approved by the national caretaker committee of the party.
The loyalists of Hon Momoh who emerged as chairmen include the ward chairman of Wards 9 and 10 respectively which, in local parlance is known as North Ibie, Etsako East council area.
Hon Momoh, a two term former member of the House of Representatives, represented Etsako federal constituency.
In Akoko Edo, Hon Akpatason, deputy majority leader of the House of Representatives loyalists emerged as ward chairmen in almost all the ten wards in the local government , including his immediate ward 9 chairman of his ward in Uneme, which is largest in the local government..
