Commissioner's list; Waiting Game not yet over in Edo north district
By DADA AYOKHAI
After much ado, Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has finally transmitted a list of commissioner designates to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation
Gov Obaseki has for more than 10 months since he was sworn in for a second term in office, dilly -- dallied with unveiling the list of his commissioners.
However, the waiting game is not over yet as the list transmitted to the assembly contains the names of 11 commissioner designates instead of the conventional 18 going by the number of local government areas in the state
An analysis of the commissioner's quota, using the three senatorial districts in the state as yardstick, reveals that Edo North district, made up of six local government areas, only two local government areas, Etsako East and West respectively, got a nominee each leaving out Akoko Edo, owan West, owan East and Etsako Central.
.
The delay in unveiling the list of commissioners did not only earn the governor scathing remarks from diverse quarters, but also created bottlenecks in service delivery as well as the impression of a cabal, comprising the trio of the governor, his deputy and the SSG, running the administration of the state.
Pundits have picked holes in the list of commissioner designates released by the governor.
According to critics, it is funny that after the long wait, the list the governor produced is a hogwash, saying there is nothing new or fresh about the list, insisting it contains the same old hands and cited the instance of the two Etsako nominees on the list who happen to be the same recycle people.
Given the "slow approach" of the governor to state matters, nobody is certain about when the other list of commissioner designates will be released.
