Harmonization: Ward Chairmen, others, cannot be forced out of office- Aziegbemi

By DADA AYOKHAI

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State has given   support to the proposed integration of the old and new members of the party in the spirit of harmonization but added that those holding positions cannot be forced to religuish their positions  expect they resign.

The party position was brought to the fore by the state chairman of the party, Dr Tony Aziegbemi  through a leak internal memo to the party stakeholders.

The memo stated thus:
"Consequent on the stakeholders meeting held on October 2, 2021, it was agreed and resolved that those holding positions in the executives CANNOT be forced out, but appealed to, to voluntarily resign."

"The party at the state level has setup a high powered Integeation Technical Committee to design a template for the integration program.  The committee report and recommendation will be out as soon as the committee completes its assignment. "

Even though we encourage local solutions to achieving the desired Integration, no local government should arbitrarily implement their template by announcing new executives. Once their local template is agreed by all the stakeholders and leaders, it should be sent to the state party secretariat for further action.

"Consequently, the announcement of a new local government executive in Esan North East local government is ultra vires, null and void. The constitutionally recognized executive therefore remains in place."
