Igarra's makes mockery of Alimikhena's toilet project
By DADA AYOKHAI
Unknowingly, Senator Francis Alimikhena, may have touched the raw nerves of his constituents, over the decision to build public toilets in Igarra market, Akoko Edo local government area, as part of his constituency reach out project
Senator Alimikhena represents Edo North senatorial district in the national assembly.
The public toilets, built within the precinct of the popular Igarra market, is meant to serve as public convenience for both the traders and other members of the public.
However, the decision seems not to have gone down well with a large segment of the people.
Rather than receiving commendations for the gesture, inhabitants of the community have questioned the rationale behind the gesture, insisting the project is misplaced and insulting to them.
They pointed out that the distinguished senator "disrespected" the people by his decision to build a public toilet instead of a more "worthy constituency project".
Following the growing butt of jokes being made out of the issue, some aggrieved residents took their pains to the social media to further vent their consternation about what they called the "poor decision" of the senator.
In one of the most virulent attacks on the project, which went viral on the social media, a concerned resident made a joke of the issue with the following captions: "Akoko Edo people make una see Senator Francis Alimikhena project ooo!!!!"; "One small toilet for Igarra market"; We dey forbid market stalls" and "Na who eat belleful dey go toilet".
With the avalanche of public disgust and disdain for his gesture coupled with the growing butt of jokes being made about the toilet project, Senator Alimikhena may find it hard to convince anyone about the genuineness of his intentions
Most importantly, the "rejection" and scathing criticism the project has drawn to itself may also serve as a clear signal about the stance of the people on the senator's stewardship
