Umogbai, others bag awards of excellence at Fugar day celebration

 The umbrella body of  Fugar people across the globe, Fugar Progressive Union (FPU), has   bestowed awards of excellence in community service to some of her  outstanding sons as part of the activities to mark this year's Fugar day celebration.

The annual Fugar's day, which wore the garb of a carnival-like event took place at the popular John Akhigbe Centre  in Fugar.

The award ceremony was the climax of the Fugar's day activities which commenced  on  December 19 and  rounded of on 27.

The ceremony  attracted a large number of invited guests, indigenes and others, all decked in colourful regalias. 

The climax of the event witnessed the investiture of award of excellence in community service as well as exceptional leadership to deserving recipients. 

Those honoured at the event include Hon. Chris Umogbai, an Accountant by profession, a member of chartered institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute  of management  and    a former political office holder.

Hon Umogbai, the first Fugar indigene to represent Etsako Central Local Government Area at the Edo State House of Assembly between 2003 and 2009, bagged an award for exceptional leadership.  
He is a holder of many chieftancy title confered on him by reverend   traditional rulers across Edo north senatorial district of the state. Amongst the title are the Olegwe of Avhianwu, Iregbhekhai of Uzairue, odalo of Jagbe and Oshiole of okpe.

He is presently the Head of Finance at the Border Community Development Agency (BCDA), a quasi agency in the Presidency. 

Chief Tom Uloko, chairman, Edo State Local Government Service Commission, chaired the event, while Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, a former two time deputy governor of Edo State and the Chairman, Board of Trustees, BOT,  Fugar Progressive Union,FPU, played the role of  chief host at the event. 

Twenty distinguished persons  bagged different awards at the event. 

In his key note address, the President of Fugar Progressive Union (FPU), Barr  Richard Atekhekhai, expressed regrets at the body's inability to hold last year's edition of the event, due to impact of the Covid - 19 global pandemic which crippled both social and economic   activities .

He noted that this year's edition, with the theme: "Back to our roots, embracing our identity" is meant to awaken the Fugar people to the rich cultural heritage and endowment.

According to the President, this year  Fugar's day celebration is the third series and the  second to be organised under his administration.
