Afishetu Braimoh, Omololu Ojeohomon, Women Commissioner designates from Owan

By DADA AYOKHAI
The number of Women Commissioners in the  Obaseki's administration  got increased by two with the recent nomination of  Omololu Ojeohomon and Mrs Afishetu Braimoh from Owan West and East Local Government Areas.

The first batch of Commissioners' list released  by the state government saw Mrs Otse Momoh-Omorogbe picked the sole slot meant for Etsako West. The trend of women dominance continued unabated.

Of the six names of Commissioners  so far announced for Edo North District, three are women, while that of a local government is still pending.

As strange as it may seem none of those questioning the skewed distribution has disputed the suitability or otherwise of the nominated women.

Taking the case of Hon. Ojeohomon as a case study. She is not just eminently qualified but also laboured hard to be part of those who delivered Owan West to the PDP. She was at a time the Edo State PDP assistant Publicity Secretary. As a matter of fact, her grassroot appeal and reach is incredibly massive.

Similarly, Mrs Afishetu Braimoh, daughter of Senator Yisa Braimoh, is another political Amazon making waves. Both Hon Ojeohomoh and Mrs Braimoh are well qualified in their respective fields.

Also, the two Amazons are no political pushovers. In addition, they had brief educational stint locally before sojourning abroad in search of the proverbial greener pasture and returned later well baked for any challenge life may throw at them.

The case of Mrs Braimoh is even more extraordinary. Born into the Yisa Braimoh political family, she began learning the political ropes as a toddler and grew into a force to reckon with in and out of her political domain. Indeed, politics flows in her veins.

Being born into a political family was not of her own doing. None of us had a voice in choosing the family we were born into. There are enough tales of those sharing similar pedigree with her who failed to build on such foundations.

In the case of Mrs Braimoh, she has been able to carve a political niche and in the process built a formidable reputation as a juggernaut irrespective of her father's clout, influence and stature.

These two Amazons have broken the glass ceiling and should be allowed to enjoy their merited nomination. The duo possess the capacity and capability to deliver.

And, whilst Edo North women enjoy all the attention and the attendant "political honeymoon" that comes with their riding political profile, it is necessary and expected that  the male folks will  play supportive roles.
