Akoko Edo Traditional Rulers Deny Endorsing Akpatason
By DADA AYOKHAI
An attempt to drag the Akoko Edo traditional institution into the murky waters of partisan politics as well as hoodwink the public has flopped, with the institution rising to stoutly defend its integrity and reputation.
The media team of Hon Peter Akpatason, who represents Akoko Edo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, recently went to town claiming that traditional rulers in Akoko Edo have endorsed the ambition of their principal to seek a fourth term.
Not wanting the falsehood to gain further ground run, the Akoko Edo Traditional Rulers Council, in a press release signed by its secretary, Mr J. F. Olorunda, debunked the claim, insisting what is being circulated on the social media platforms is "preposterous and a total misrepresentation" of what really transpired when Hon Akpatason met with them.
Giving further insights into what transpired at the last meeting of the Akoko Edo Council of Traditional Rulers, Mr Olorunda narrated how the royal fathers, out of courtesy, trooped out to thank and pray for the lawmaker who was an inspection tour of the new Traditional Rulers council building facilitated by him.
Mr Olorunda explained that at no time was the issue of endorsement mentioned.
Restating the Council's political neutrality, he vouched for the integrity of the Council members, stating that,"the Council is apolitical and does not discuss or even contemplate the idea of endorsing anyone for political offices".
