Auchi Marks Day, Arafat mosque formally Commissioned

The ancient town of Auchi, the political  headquarters of Edo North senatorial district sparked into life penultimate week following the celebration of the Annual Auchi Day.

 This year's annual Auchi Day, with the theme: "Arafat- The light proclaimed", is the 25th edition and still counting, witnessed a large turnout of the town folks, most of whom stormed the venue in colourful dresses, eager to savour the rich cultural music and dances on display.

The royalty, ably represented by the Otaru of Auchi Sacred kingdom, HRH H. A. Momoh, Ikelebe 3, spiced up the colourful event with his presence and gait.

A day to the Auchi's Celebration, the  Otaru of Auchi and his specifically invited guests, took time out to commission the ultra modern Auchi Central Mosque, codenamed Arafat Mosque. 

In his address at the epoch ceremony, the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Alhaji H.A Momoh,  recalled how the inspiration for the name came; explaining that when the spiritual essence of the ground on which the mosque was built dawned on him, he  was compelled to pronounce it as Arafat mosque in strict deference to its religious significance to Auchi community. 

Auchi community, located in Etsako West local government area of Edo State, served as the citadel for both Islamic education and propagation in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Islam is deeply rooted among the people. 

Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, was ably represented at the event by his Cabinet member, Hon Moses Agbukor.  

The governor once again restated the resolve of his administration in partnering critical stakeholders in the state, especially traditional rulers, in such crucial areas as security with a view to improving the safety and sanctity of lives and Properties.

Other highpoints of the day included a lecture delivered by Sheikh Suleiman Momoh, a federal commissioner in the National Hajj Commission.

Prominent Auchi sons across the country were in attendance, among were Engr Saliu Ahmed, the Managing Director, Benin_ Owena River Basin Commission,.

Traditional Rulers across Edo North were also in attendance.
