Etsako Central LGA yet to get Commissioner designates
By DADA AYOKHAI
With the recent release of seven commissioner designates to add to the earlier 11 released late last year, making a total of 18 so far, Gov Godwin Obaseki has kept the people of Etsako Central in quandary as to when hey would also get their own fair share of the largesse.
The delay in announcing nominees for the post of commissioner of Etsako Central origin is causing huge political ripples among critical stakeholders in the locality
Recall the local government boasts of high profile political heavyweights, many of whom dictate the political direction of affairs in the area.
Among them is Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, a former two term deputy governor of Edo State, former Chief of Staff, CoS, to former president Goodluck Jonathan and current chairman of the Edo State PDP Elders Forum.
Next is Hon Paschal Ugbomeh, a former Etsako Central council chairman and lawmaker as well as Co-ordinator of the Obaseki/Shaibu Support Group for Edo North during the Edo 2020 governorship election.
Then also, there is Hon Dania Lawani who acted as chairman of the Obaseki/Shuaibu Movement, OSM.
But for the fact that Chief Dan Orbih, a former state chairman of the PDP who also hails from the same local government, belongs to the other camp that is opposed to the governor, the matter would have been more complicated.
Insider sources told our reporter that the case of naming a commissioner of Etsako Central extraction is not as easy as it appears on the surface.
The source added that, at the root of the delay is the knotty issue of who among the plethora of heavyweight political leaders in the local government should be saddled with the responsibility of nominating the commissioner designates.
While the governor works behind the scene to see if he can build some kind of consensus among the various political gladiators, the exclusion of Etsako Central in the scheme of things will linger for sometime
