AAU Lecturers Demand Sack Of Austin Osakue from disciplinary committee

By DADA AYOKHAI
The Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, (AAU), Edo State branch of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has demanded the removal of a member of the school’s Special Intervention Team (SIT), Mr Austin Osakue, from the
Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee (SSDC).

A letter after a congress of the local chapter of ASUU and made available to journalists in Benin resolved that Osakue should be excluded from membership of SSDC against the backdrop of his educational qualification (National Certificate of Education) and his alleged controversial and biased roles in the biometrics verification exercise for staff recently.

Besides, the statement which was signed by Dr Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele, the chairman and Dr William Odion, the assistant secretary noted that Osakue’s utterances (during the exercise) are suggestive of indictments, already, of staff and inclination to vendetta.

“Congress further reasoned that since many staff have been issued queries over the exercise and may be asked to appear before the SSDC, retaining Mr Austin Osakue as a member of SSDC will negate the principles of fair hearing and natural justice,” the statement added.

According to Onogbosele and Odion, congress further resolved that the union should write a protest letter to the university administration on the matter so as to exclude Osakue from membership of the SSDC to foster fair hearing and justice.
