Agba and Orbih: a tale of two Etsako Oduma's
By DADA AYOKHAI
Prince Agba, of the royal family in Uzanu Uneme, Etsako East LGA and, currently, the honourable minister of state for Budget and National Planning, was recently bestowed with one of the revered traditional titles in Auchi kingdom by the Otaru of Auchi, HRH H A Momoh, Ikelebe 111 on the 29th of January 2022.
As the title implies, the "Oduma", in the local parlance, means lion, the king of the jungle and a ferocious predator known for devouring its victims.
Going by records, the former Edo state PDP chairman, Chief Dan orbih, also holds the title of Oduma of Uzairue kingdom, which was bestowed on him by the Ogieneni of Uzairue kingdom, HRH Alhaji kadiri omogbai,IV in 2006.
By implication, therefore, two illustrious sons of Etsako clan; Chief Orbih and Prince Agba, both with contrasting political personalities, hold the revered "Oduma" traditional title.
Uzairue is the immediate neighbour to Auchi and both communities are in Etsako West council area.
Chief Orbih; a chip of the old political order, from Ogbona, Etsako Central, inherited the political charisma and sagacity of his late father, Chief M. C. K Orbih, and went on to build an intimidating political dynasty of his own.
In contrast, Prince Agba is a relatively unknown political quantity who shot into political stardom on the wings of a successful private practice in the oil and gas sector.
Whilst Chief Orbih has successfully waded through the political minefield with scathes and bruises to show for it and in the process earning the reputation of a shrewd and hard nut politician, Prince Agba is just building up his political credentials.
Former comrade governor, Adams Oshiomole, is said to have been instrumental to the recruitment of the Uzanu Uneme Prince into Edo politics
Chief Orbih has made significant inroads into the PDP and is presently the South- South vice chairman of the party; Prince Agba, on the other hand, is a major power broker in Edo North APC, a case of contrasting fortunes.
As the tempo of politics in Etsako rises, with the combatants gearing to go into the trenches to canvass and harvest votes which will ultimately translate into political power, chances of a huge conflagration erupting assuming the two "Oduma's" decide to live up to the actual meaning of their titles - lion, is best imagined
And, then, the impending battle between the two "Oduma's" once politics resumes full blast later this year, will be an anti climax.
