Obaseki bags Governor of the Year award

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has been named as  Governor of the Year 2021.

The award  was confered on the Governor by  one of the country's leading newspaper,    Vanguard Newspaper.

The management of vanguard newspaper made the disclosure during a visit where the governor  was formally presented with a notification letter.

Speaking on behalf of the vanguard newspaper , the deputy editor of the newspaper Mr Adekoya  Adekunle said the visit was to present a letter notifying the governor of his award as the Governor of the Year 2021.

He said, "We are here on behalf of the Management of Vanguard Newspapers to present you a letter notifying you of your award as Governor of the Year 2021 after a selection process embarked on by the board of editors of Vanguard Newspapers.

We looked at the Make Edo Great Again (MEGA) Agenda and have been on the ground to take a tour of developmental projects in the State.”

Receiving the letter of notification from the Newspaper’s Deputy Editor, Adekunle Adekoya, at the Government House, Benin City, Obaseki said his administration will continue to prioritize the infrastructural and human capital development in the state.

Obaseki said, “This selection came to me as a shock because I never saw Vanguard Newspapers as a friendly newspaper to my administration. We have evidence of this fact.

“The stories that were put out in the run-off to my reelection were not fair and didn't reflect the true happenings, particularly the political stories.

"For the newspaper that I didn't see as one of my friendly newspapers giving me an award, they obviously have done their work to select me.”

He continued: “For us, we are not an award-seeking administration as the greatest award we have ever gotten is from God and the people during the reelection in 2020. If you are reading newspapers across the country, we never had the opportunity for reelection but God made it possible.

"We are doing all to develop the state and make life better for Edo people using education which is one of our cardinal focus.

"Vanguard is our paper in the South-South but can't be the newspaper in the newsstands alone as we are revamping the state-owned Nigerian Observer to compete with other newspapers in the newsstands.”

Auchi Microfinance Bank groans under high customers debt profiles

By DADA AYOKHAI  The management of Auchi Microfinance Bank (AMFB), yesterday, decried the high indebtedness of customers to the bank just as it urges customers to pay up in order to remain in business. Chairman of the financial institution, Hassan Momodu, expressed his resentment at its 22nd and 23rd joint annual general meetings of the bank in Auchi, Edo  According to him "We are using this medium to appeal passionately to our shareholders and the general public that are indebted to us to pay up to reduce our yearly provisioning and improve our profitability”,  Momodu also said that the increase in the fund in the period under review represented a 29 percent improvement on the fund.
