Zoo requires bail out to survive _, Ehanire

A passionate appeal has gone out to the federal government to explore the possibility of extending similar bail out given to some sectors in the wake of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic to the animals park sector.
The call for the bailout of the animals park sector which, in local vocabulary, is known as zoos, was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Ogba Zoological Garden in Edo State, Mr Andy Enanire.
Mr Enanire made the special appeal during a chat with journalists who cover the tourism beat, under the banner of Travel Writers Corp.
According to the internationally renowned tourism expert, the animals park sector suffered a lot more than other sectors during the COVID lockdown. He stressed that while some businesses could easily lock up and go away, the zoos cannot be shut down so easily as the animals required constant attention and maintenance.
He said, "If you look at the recent lockdown, it was only zoos that carried 100℅ overhead because animal exhibits must be maintained. Other businesses simply locked up without much running costs. So, there is need for financial bailout if the zoos are to survive the COVID-19 restrictions".
On the challenges of managing Ogba Zoological Gardens, regarded as a major tourist attraction in the entire old Mid west region, Mr Enanire identified the dearth of skilled manpower as a cog in the Park's ability to deliver on its core mandates, stating, however, that concerted efforts are being made to overcome these obstacles, especially as it relates to the training of tour guides, the erection of signage and other educational related activities of the Park.
Enanire equally commended the Edo State government for its assistance to the zoo in the areas of security , noting the management of the zoo under his stewardship is striving hard to close all observed gaps to keep the facility running.
