By DADA AYOKHAI The Edo State governor Mr Godwin Obaseki out of conviction or mounted pressure has disclosed the list of his would-be commissioners. In Edo North district,  two of the 6 expected names were released, they are  Mrs. Otse Momoh-Omorogbe and Hon Moses Agbukor. Mrs Omorogbe who is the nominee from Etsako West local government is the daughter of the Otaru of Auchi who is said to be married to a Benin man. She was brought in as a commissioner during the crisis between comrade Adams Oshiomole and Governor Obaseki. Her appointment as a commissioner did not make any difference at the poll during the election that brought in Obaseki for a second term in office. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP )under whose platform Obaseki contested the election lost in all the units and wards in Auchi Community. The other nominee, Hon Moses Agbukor is representing Etsako East local government area. He belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC) blogs in the  PDP.

In a statement, Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie Esq., said the two Special Advisers are Crusoe Osagie, who has been appointed as Special Adviser, Media Projects and Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, who is Special Adviser, Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management. This was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in Abuja. Among those  deployed is an Edo State born Ambassador Itegboje Sunday Samson who will act as Nigeria’s Ambassador/Deputy Representative, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Amb. Samson S. Itegboje  has served in Venezuela, New York (Consulate General), Philippines, Ethiopia and now New York (Permanent Mission) Mr Itegbogie had in an interview with a local Esan tabloid said" I was born and grew up in Auchi, Edo State. Yakubu Musa floors Obaseki in court over removal as LGA Chairman

Musa aka Yakson  as chairman of Etsako West Local government  by the Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki. The Edo State government had through the then Commissioner for Local governments and Community Affairs, Barrister Jimoh Ijegbai suspended and later removed  Hon Yakubu Musa as Etsako West local government in August 2019 over a purported financial allegations that took place in the local government. FG bans SS1, SS2 students from taking NECO, WAEC

By DADA AYOKHAI The Federal Government has banned secondary school students, that were not in terminal classes from applying and sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE, the National Examination Council, NECO, and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, NABTEB, across the country. In a statement by the Director Press, Ministry of education, Ben Goong, the federal government added that any student, particularly in public schools, not in the terminal classes found to have written the examination, henceforth, would be expelled from the school immediately, to serve as a deterrent to others planning to embark on such actions. The statement says further that the decision to restrict students in the Senior Secondary SS 1 and 11 classes from sitting for external examinations, was taken to maintain decorum and boost standards of education in schools. By DADA AYOKHAI The Edo State government has given the inhabitants of the state an assurance of  commencing the rehabilitation of roads across the three Senatorial District in the state as soon as the rains reced. The assurance was contained in a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Mr. Ferguson Enabulele. According to the Permanent Secretary, the said  roads penciled down for rehabilitation are located in Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts, noting that the move is in line with the government’s commitment to ensuring durable infrastructure to improve livelihoods and drive urbanization. Edo civil servants arrested for issuing fake COVID-19 vaccine cards

By DADA AYOKHAI Edo State government on Monday said it had arrested COVID-19 response team officials for issuing fake vaccine cards to Nigerians that refused to get vaccinated. Speaking to reporters, the permanent secretary of the state ministry of health, Osamwonyi Irowa, said the suspects have been handed over to security agents in the state. “We have noticed with dismay that some persons are trying to buy cards. “And, we have also found out that some people within the system, within the response team, were trying to connive with some people who tried to buy cards without taking the vaccine. “In that light, we have also gotten those persons, and we have handed them over to the security agents, and they are being handled officially the way they must be handled,” Mr Irowa said. He stated that those buying the vaccine cards would also be arrested and handed over to the security agencies for prosecution.

Auchi Microfinance Bank groans under high customers debt profiles

COVID-19: Edo begins enforcement of restriction for unvaccinated civil servants

By DADA AYOKHAI The Edo State Government will today, Wednesday, September 15, 2021, begin enforcement of restrictions on large public gatherings for persons without evidence of COVID-19 vaccination with government offices across the state. The move is a part of intensified efforts to contain the pandemic and protect the majority of Edo citizens against the deadly virus, following progressive rise in the number of infections and mortalities in the state. The state has so far recorded 1,034 confirmed cases and 53 fatalities in the third wave of the pandemic, with about 20 new deaths of persons who were not inoculated with the vaccines in the last four days. With a progressive rise in test positivity rate in the past nine weeks, young people less than 50 years old account for over 73.1 percent of total confirmed cases in Edo, while unvaccinated persons account for over 98 percent of all fatalities recorded in the state. Speaking in an interview on Shaibu however said there are issues in PDP that needs to be resolved. He said “I am happy with my governor and I have no problem with my governor. So, the issue of not being happy with my governor is not there. I remain absolutely loyal to my governor but there are issues that we need to resolve over PDP”. There are reports that Shaibu has concluded plans to dump the PDP over the failure of Governor Godwin Obaseki to appoint a cabinet a year after he won reelection as the Governor of the state.

Edo govt employs 300 workers into civil service

Auchi Polytechnic student commits suicide

By DADA AYOKHAI  A fresher student in the department of public Administration , Auchi polytechnic ,Auchi  identified as Solomon Oboh has  committed suicide. The said student,  23 years old commited the havoc after classes on Friday . The body  was reportedly   found dangling in his room on the night on that faithful day. A source said the deceased, in his suicide note, instructed that his mobile phone to be given to one Sandra, believed to be his girl friend whom he begged for forgiveness. He said: “Solomon was in class on Friday and left for home after class, we only came home later in the evening to find him dangling in the ceiling of his room at Bawack area of South Ibie.    “He was a very quiet boy who took his academics very serious. He wouldn’t go out and never showed any sign of depression”. The spokesperson for the school, Mustapha Oshiobugie, who confirmed the incident, said he was yet to get the details.

VAT: Orbih tells South South Govs to embrace law, use proceeds for grassroots development

Chairman of the committee, Hon Kabiru Adjoto, said this at the flag off ceremony of the party's E-Registration exercise in Benin City. According to him"Our target is to register at least one million Edo people in the course of this exercise. Edo university commences conversion programme for HND Holders

By DADA AYOKHAI A Edo state university, uzairue has commessed a conversion programme which will give opportunity for the holders of HND in the polytechnic and monotecnic who wish to have a degree. The university which is situated in Edo north district of the state made the announcement via a newspaper advert where she calls for application. According to the advert, an applicant must be an hnd holders from government approved polytechnic or monotechnic with upper credit. Again, the applicants must have done the mandatory national youth service corps. The programme expected duration is 24 months calendar. 206 teachers commence 2nd edition of NPDC/SEPLAT training

By Deborah Coker No fewer than 206 teachers from Edo and Delta has commenced the second edition of the NPDC/Seplat Petroleum Development Company PLC joint venture teachers empowerment programme, known as STEP. Dr Chioma Nwachukwu, Director, External Affairs and Sustainability, SEPLAT, in her remarks at the formal inauguration of the programme in Benin, said that the benefitting teachers include 200 teachers and six Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs). Represented by Mrs Esther Icha, Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, Seplat, Nwachukwu disclosed that the process for the selection of the benefiting teachers commenced with an online test. She explained that 874 teachers registered from all schools across Edo and Delta, adding that at the end of the test, 200 teachers and six CIEs were selected. By DADA AYOKHAI Five years after, the Nigerian Police Secondary School in Oke-Ora in Owan West Local Government Area was established in principle  by the 18th, Nigerian  Inspector-General of Police, Barrister Solomon Arase, the school was yet to properly take off. Solomon Arase, who was the Nigerian Inspector-General of Police between April 21, 2015 and June 21, 2016 announced the establishment of the school in his maternal mother's local government of origin. Investigation reveals that the school was yet to take off due to lack of infrastructures. This also made the school not listed among the Nigerian Police secondary school because of its non-functioning.
